Amazon Cargo Plane Overruns Runway at Miami Airport, Causing Fatalities

An Amazon Prime Air cargo plane operated by 21 Air overran a runway at Miami International Airport, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. The incident led to a temporary halt of all airport operations as emergency crews responded.

The Boeing 767-300, which had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, left the diagonal runway around 2 p.m. local time on September 6, 2026. After overrunning the runway, the aircraft struck several vehicles before coming to a stop at the northwest end of the airport.

According to reports, at least five individuals lost their lives and five others sustained injuries in the incident. Emergency responders transported three of the injured to a local trauma center in critical condition, while two others were taken to area hospitals with less severe injuries.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue stated that more than 60 units were dispatched to the scene. Specialized airport firefighting equipment and foam were used, and at least one person was extricated from beneath a vehicle.
